Four things to consider when looking at your Medicare plan

All About Medicare, Choosing a Medicare plan
Aspire Blog - Medicare's Annual Election Period (AEP) - Fortune teller with four choices

During Medicare’s Annual Election Period (AEP) you have an annual window of time to reevaluate your Medicare coverage whether it’s Original Medicare with additional Part D coverage, a Medicare Supplemental plan or a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan. If you want to make a change, now is the time to do it! Here are four things to consider when looking at your Medicare plan.

1. Consider the total cost.

Monthly premiums are just a small part of your healthcare costs. You also have to consider what you pay in deductibles, co-pays, and non-covered expenses. Aspire Health Plan could keep more money in your pocket and potentially save hundreds if you have to see a specialist regularly, thousands if you have a serious health condition. Plus, you may be eligible for Extra Help on prescriptions. (We talk about this more in a previous blog post.)

2. Check out the extras.

There are many ways a Medicare plan can save you money. Aspire Health Plan covers everything Original Medicare does; plus, it includes prescription drug coverage, optional dental, vision and hearing benefits, membership to local gyms, including Montage Wellness Center, and much more. Aspire members also have no-cost access to an enhanced care team including health coaches, care managers and social workers to help you manage chronic conditions and empower and support you on your healthcare journey.

3. Make sure you’re getting what you need.

While it’s hard to predict what type of coverage you will need next year, there are some things you can plan for. If you have specific healthcare needs, such as regular specialist visits, ensure you are covered and know how much you’d be expected to pay. Do you take any prescription medications? Compare plans to see if they are covered and how much your co-pay would be.

4. Know who can help you if you need it.

Let’s face it. Insurance can be confusing. And the last thing you want is to find yourself lost in a phone tree while you wait to speak with someone. Aspire is a local health plan. In fact, you can walk in the office and speak to someone face-to-face. You might even know someone who works for us. So, when you call, you know you’re going to be more than a policy number.

During this year’s AEP, we invite you to take a fresh look at Aspire Health Plan. Visit our plans & rates page for more information. If you have questions or would like to know more, give one of our local Health Plan Advisors a call at (866) 798-1530. TTY users call 711. You can also attend a free Medicare seminar right here in Monterey County where you can learn the basics and discover the benefits of our plans. There is no obligation to enroll at any of these events.
